Mytherapy sees immediate time and cost savings using JMR's PCIe based Extender RAID storage system
CHATSWORTH, California and LONDON, April 12, 2010 - JMR Electronics, Inc., the leading value provider of scalable storage
systems for video and data intensive applications, announced today that UK
based Mytherapy D-Cinelab has purchased their BlueStor(TM) Extender EXTN-8
PCIe based RAID storage system.
Mytherapy D-Cinelab, a company that specializes in 3D stereoscopic color
grading and mastering for feature films, chose JMR's storage product to work
seamlessly with two streams of 2K stereoscopic feature film workflows. The
BlueStor Extender, with 16TB of storage, a split backplane and dual RAID
controllers, is being used with the IRADAS-DI grading and mastering system
for real time playback, color grading and mastering production.
Mytherapy D-Cinelab had previously used traditional FC RAID storage
products as well as other PCIe based products, but rejected them because they
were not able to sustain real time playback without dropping frames. "We
needed a high performance storage system that would allow us to work on two
streams of 2k stereoscopic feature films simultaneously while being easily
expandable," said Dado Valentic, CEO and owner of Mytherapy D-Cinelab. "We
evaluated a variety of RAID products, but only JMR's BlueStor Extender was
able to perform to our expectations without causing the delays associated
with other systems that could not meet the sustained throughput rates needed
for our workflows. Moreover, we were very impressed that the JMR system was
able to achieve this using lower cost enterprise SATA II versus SAS drives,
which would have caused capacity problems associated with working with long
form feature films rather than short run advertisement work."
"Mytherapy's purchase of our BlueStor Extender RAID system validates the
continuing momentum and acceptance from the European creative community of
our unique patented PCIe based storage architecture," added Iain Pickthall,
JMR's EMEA Sales Manager. "The time and cost savings of seamlessly having the
speed and capacity available to work on two full bandwidth streams without
delays significantly shortens the time-to-market window. Coupled with the
ability to seamlessly scale capacity and performance from a single solution
represents an additional benefit to both Mytherapy and their clients, a
win-win for all."
"JMR was the first company to not only have a product that could cope
with the sustained performance our workflows needed, but was also able to
understand our requirements and customize the product's settings to address
the special requirements of the stereoscopic industry," concluded Valentic.
"We found JMR to be very different to other companies in the level of support
they were able to offer us and the robustness of their product. We put the
BlueStor system to work immediately where it was used on 'Street Dance 3D'
which is being released in May 2010 and a new Chinese version of 'Don
Quixote' in 3D which will be released in September. It's become a permanent
fixture in our facility where it'll be used in ongoing projects."
