MEXICO CITY, September 21, 2010 - His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad
Al-Jaber Al-Sabah arrived in Mexico last week for an official visit
(www.kuwaittimes.net/read_news.php?newsid=MTM2ODE4NzcxNw==), as Kuwait
celebrated Mexico's Bicentennial.
Representing His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber
Al-Sabah, Sheikh Nasser offered congratulations to Mexican President Felipe
de Jesus Calderon on the special moment of pride in Mexican history. The
prime minister remarked on the strong ties Mexico and Kuwait have had since
establishing diplomatic relations nearly 35 years ago. He also said how
grateful Kuwait was toward Mexico for its support during the Iraqi invasion
of Kuwait 20 years ago.
This is the second visit by the Prime Minister in the last three months.
Last July, after an invitation by President Calderon, Sheikh Nasser paid an
official visit to Mexico as part of his tour of Latin America. During that
visit, the Mexican president welcomed the Kuwaiti government's decision to
open an embassy in Mexico. The two nations also signed a memorandum of
understanding between their foreign ministries to establish a mechanism for
deliberation over bilateral issues.
Since Kuwait and Mexico first established diplomatic ties in 1976, the
two nations have established economic trade, with Kuwait exporting equipment
needed for well digging and importing heavy equipment and spare parts from
Mexico.
