BRUSSELS, November 22, 2011 -

- The time is right for more cooperation between governments and business

Policy-makers and defence experts from across key EU institutions will today join McAfee, the leading security solutions provider, to look at the question of increased cyber interoperability in a fast-changing world.

At a breakfast seminar, hosted in the European Parliament by Christian Ehler MEP, delegates will hear how technology is changing the way war is waged between and within states, and the extent that closer cooperation between states and systems could be the solution to tackling cyber threats.

Legislators, representatives from NATO, the European Defence Agency (EDA), the Military Staff of the EU (EUMS), and the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) will join with McAfee to discuss what governments and the private sector can do cooperatively to combat the growing cyber threat.

McAfee will set out how nations and organisations can cooperate to overcome the challenges of scale, cost effectiveness and interoperability and in turn, successfully mitigate the cyber threat.

Maurice Cashman, senior security architect at McAfee will present on some of the key capabilities that governments require to achieve a resilient security architecture. These key capabilities of speed, visibility and relationships are applicable whether the network supports government enterprise or critical infrastructure.

“The cyber security challenge requires an evolution in thinking. With the right industry-government collaboration, networks of the future can create resiliency by instantly rejecting harmful code in milliseconds as opposed to the hours it traditionally takes to make a signature, just as our bodies reject viruses even though we may not know the name of the particular disease,” said Maurice Cashman.  ”Information technology companies focused on cyber security in particular have the resources and the economic incentives to continue to invent and develop the technologies and solutions needed to stay ahead of sophisticated cyber attackers.”
