Responding to European Air Traffic Delays, Court Approves Modifications to Aleris Voting Procedures for Creditor Ballots and Subscription Forms

BEACHWOOD, Ohio, April 20, 2010 - Aleris International, Inc. a global leader in aluminum rolled products,
extrusions and recycling, said today that the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in
Delaware agreed to its request to modify the Disclosure Statement Order and
Voting Procedures Order so that it could accommodate claims holders impacted
by the extensive delays in European air traffic due to volcanic ash.

Acknowledging that air traffic disruption may delay physical delivery of
rights offering subscription forms and voting ballots to the claims agent,
the Court granted Aleris permission to provide that any holder of a Claim in
Europe may submit a ballot or subscription form (other than beneficial owner
ballots, which are to be returned to nominees) to claims agent KCC by PDF via
electronic mail at KCC_Aleris@kccllc.com or by facsimile to +1-310-751-1560.

Under the modified procedure, it is essential that (i) the subscription
form or ballot be accompanied by a separate certification (which can be in
the email or on the fax cover sheet) that establishes that the form or ballot
was executed in Europe and is being sent from Europe and (ii) the creditor
sends the executed original to KCC as soon as practicable.

All other requirements of the Disclosure Statement Order and Voting
Procedures Order continue to apply, including all applicable deadlines.

Claims information and Court filings, including the proposed Plan and
Disclosure Statement are available at www.kccllc.net/Aleris.
