Siemens Reaches 2GW Wind Power Generation Capacity in the UK

LONDON, April 13, 2010 - Siemens reached a UK milestone of two gigawatt (2GW) generation capacity
last month with the installation of turbine E1 at the Gunfleet Sands wind
farm off the Essex coast. This milestone has been achieved less than 18
months after Siemens completed installation of its first gigawatt of wind
turbine capacity, making the company's installations the largest offshore
power base in Europe.
Siemens recently announced the installation of its1000th UK turbine, a
milestone which was also reached at the Gunfleet Sands wind farm. The
Gunfleet Sands wind farm is owned by Dong Energy, the world's leading
operator of offshore wind farms.
Siemens provides 40% of the UK's wind turbine generating capacity and is
the market leader in offshore wind turbines in the UK, including the recent
award to the SMartwind consortium of the 4GW contract for the "Hornsea" zone
of the Round 3 wind farm programme.
