By Frost Sullivan, PRNETuesday, October 12, 2010
LONDON, October 13, 2010 - The 2010 Frost & Sullivan Europe Product Line Strategy Award in
Fingerprint Verification Components and Systems is presented to Fingerprint
Cards AB (FPC).

"For more than a decade, FPC has been operating in the biometrics
industry with the prime focus on designing and developing, marketing and
selling and/or licensing its core technology of fingerprint biometrics,"
notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Suchismita Das. "Superior and robust
biometric solutions have enabled the company to position itself as a major
developer and supplier of fingerprint verification components and systems to
more than 2,000 customers, including both small and large-sized ones,
throughout the world."
The company's extensive product portfolio - fingerprint sensors,
biometric processor applications-specific integrated circuits (ASICs),
biometric sub-modules, development kits along with other fingerprint
verification components and systems - have been developed to meet varied
verification needs.
Its FPC1011F area sensor is a high-quality robust fingerprint sensor.
Proprietary 3D pixel sensing technology enables the fingerprint area sensor
to virtually read any finger, whether wet or dry.
Moreover, FPC has successfully designed several generations of biometric
processors and sensors such as FPC2020 (ASIC) and FPC1031 (swipe sensor). Its
robust biometric modules, FPC-AM3, enable easy integration and offer superior
performance.
"In addition to customisation options, FPC also offers price benefits to
its customers, such as bulk pricing privileges," remarks Das. "Furthermore,
the company helps its customers with product design; it reviews the
customer's design and then enhances it with FPC technology for optimal
performance. These value-added services have been instrumental in making FPC
the preferred choice of customers."
FPC is at the forefront in the three major markets in which it operates -
complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) area-based sensors and
subsystems, CMOS swipe-based sensors and subsystems and specialised projects
based on its technology in wafer format.
"FPC has had a significant impact in the CMOS area-based sensors and
subsystems market," adds Das. "In 2007, FPC became the biggest supplier of
biometric authentication systems for the Chinese banking sector, underlining
the appeal of its high quality biometric technology."
FPC is set to be a top participant in the CMOS swipe-based sensors and
subsystems sector due to its innovative technologies. In the customised
wafer-based projects market, FPC has already rendered its technology and
support to many customised projects, principally for advanced card projects.
"Although the core business concept of FPC is delivering components and
complete systems based on its patented fingerprint technology, it is also
strong in the area of small and cost-effective embedded systems," states Das.
"FPC serves the smart card, mobile phones and financial and banking sectors
with its unique fingertip verification technology. Its area sensor technology
has been successfully used in applications such as access control in
buildings, time and attendance, in computers and IT networks and other strong
security zones."
For the Product Line Strategy Award, the following criteria were used to
benchmark FPC's performance against key competitors: breadth of product line,
size of addressable customer base, impact on customer value, impact on market
share and, breadth of applications/markets served.
Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognise companies in a variety
of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and
superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation,
customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts
compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth
interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify
best practices in the industry.
About Fingerprint Cards AB
Fingerprint Cards AB (publ) (FPC) develops biometric technology, which,
through analysis and matching of an individual's unique fingerprint, verifies
the person's identity. The technology consists of biometric sensors,
processors, algorithms and modules that can be used separately or combined.
The competitive advantages offered by FPC's technology include unique image
quality, extreme robustness, low power consumption and complete biometric
systems. With these advantages and the ability to achieve extremely low
manufacturing costs, the technology can be implemented in volume products,
such as smart cards and mobile telephones, which impose extremely rigorous
demands on these characteristics. FPC's technology can also be used in IT and
Internet products for security and access control. Fingerprint Cards AB (FPC)
is listed on Nasdaq OMX Stockholm (FING B) and has its head office in
Gothenburg, Sweden.
