Unique Hologram Theatre Shows Translation of Customer Input into Practical Clinical Solutions
BARCELONA, Spain, September 9, 2010 - Elekta will demonstrate its continued leadership role in the
technological advancement of radiation oncology at the 2010 meeting of the
European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ESTRO) 12-16
September in Barcelona, Spain. Elekta's theme is Experience the Elekta
Difference, which acknowledges the importance of listening to customers and
delivering what they need-in image guidance, digital control, field shaping,
respiratory motion management, treatment speed and accuracy.
"Our Experience the Elekta Difference theme distinguishes Elekta from
other providers," says Olof Sanden, Executive Vice President, Europe and
AFLAME. "We believe our customers should be the principle drivers of
innovation based on their clinical needs. The difference is how Elekta
translates listening and collaboration with customers into practical
solutions that our customers can employ in the clinic."
To bring its ESTRO 29 theme to life, Elekta booth #040 will feature a 3D
hologram theatre designed to show visitors how the company's tradition of
listening has equipped clinicians with the tools they need to optimize
patient care. Elekta also will exhibit several new, developing and
field-proven solutions, including:
- Agility* multileaf collimator (MLC) prototype. Featuring a leaf
positioning system that utilizes optical technology to verify and
ensure accuracy, Agility will provide low transmission with
unparalleled leaf speed. In addition, Agility will offer 160, 5mm
leaves across the full 40 x 40cm field to provide a single, versatile
MLC for a spectrum of applications. To download a white paper
highlighting the scientific principles used to design Agility, visit
www.elekta.com/agility.
- Integrity(TM)* digital linear accelerator control. Now in its sixth
generation, Elekta's digital linac control synchronizes multiple linac
operations through a single centralized control system to increase
performance and reduce the risk of errors. To download a white paper
detailing three clinical sites' experience with Integrity, visit
www.elekta.com/integrity.
- Intuity(TM) image guidance for tumors and critical structures. Building
upon Elekta's XVI imaging technology, Intuity offers superior image
quality combined with the largest available image size.
- Symmetry(TM) respiratory motion management for lung tumor treatment.
Revolutionizing the process of visualizing moving tumors during
treatment, Symmetry enables clinicians to reduce margins, account for
baseline shifts and employ uninterrupted treatment delivery while the
patient breathes freely.
- Monaco(R) treatment planning with VMAT. With reduced planning time and
increased clinical throughput, Monaco with VMAT optimizes single or
multiple non-coplanar arcs simultaneously, providing the flexibility
and control needed for complex treatment plans.
- Clarity(TM)** soft tissue visualization. Capable of integrating with
any linac platform, Clarity takes breast and prostate soft tissue
visualization for planning and patient set-up to new levels. Easy to
learn and use, Clarity seamlessly integrates within existing clinical
workflows.
- Leksell Gamma Knife(R) Perfexion(TM) stereotactic radiosurgery system
for treatment of multiple metastases with speed and precision.
Events held in conjunction with ESTRO
Prior to ESTRO, Elekta will host its 2010 European Users Meeting
Saturday, 11 September at the Pullman Skipper Hotel. An interactive forum,
attendees will have the opportunity to hear customers share their clinical
experience utilizing Elekta's advanced treatment methodologies, adaptive and
enhanced planning tools and oncology information systems. In addition, Elekta
will host two lunch symposia:
- Elekta Oncology: Innovations in Image Guidance and VMAT, Tuesday, 14
September from 12:45 - 14:30 in Room 113, Level 1.
- Elekta Neuroscience: Solutions for Stereotactic Radiotherapy,
Wednesday, 15 September from 12:45 - 14:30 in Room 115, Level 1.
