Energy Efficiency is Number one Issue in India’s HVAC Industry

DUBAI, UAE, August 17, 2011 -

In the past ten years India has seen a huge surge in construction activity in the housing and real estate sectors, with the country topping US $100 billion in projects last year.

As more affluent developments and business parks have been built, the trappings of a growing middle class have been reflected in the completed projects. Air conditioning, once a luxury for the upper classes, is now becoming increasingly normal in India’s real estate sector.

With great power comes great responsibility, as the saying goes, and HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) is one of the biggest energy users in buildings across the world. Some estimates suggest that HVAC networks are to blame for over 30% of building energy usage. When you consider the potentially millions of Indian homes and businesses installing air conditioning across the subcontinent, the electricity consumption is enormous.

India’s power infrastructure is ill prepared to cope with additional strains and HVAC experts have recognized the importance of developing and implementing energy efficient technology and products in new developments.

And they are not the only ones; India’s leading developers have also indicated their commitment to sustainable practices by adopting green building codes and standards in many of their new and existing projects.

At an upcoming event called HVAC India, many of these developers, including DB Group, Raheja Corp and Omaxe will discuss new initiatives and technology which they can incorporate in India’s green strategy moving forward. Endorsed by ISHRAE, representatives from these developers will debate and discuss their plans with leading local and international HVAC consultants such as Spectral Services, Mott Macdonald and SEED Engineering.

IQPC’s HVAC India, in association with ISHRAE, will be held from 11 - 12 October at the Marriott Mumbai International Airport. For more information about this event, visit www.hvacindiaevent.com.
