Kuwait Hosts Environmental Meetings

KUWAIT CITY, October 8, 2010 - As Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Environment, First Deputy Prime
Minister and Minister of Defence Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah
(en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaber_Al-Mubarak_Al-Hamad_Al-Sabah) has been
leading an effort to explore environmental issues. This weekend, Kuwait is
hosting several high-level Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) meetings related to
the environment.
On October 9, the GCC committee on wildlife natural habitat protection
will hold its eighth meeting. The following day will feature the commencement
of the 26th meeting of the GCC environmental coordination committee. In
addition, on October 12, there will be a meeting of senior GCC environmental
affairs officials. The meetings will feature topics such as the potential
effects of climate change on the region and the "red tides" phenomenon.
These sessions will include several senior officials and experts from all
GCC member nations, in addition to representatives of other international
entities. They will be chaired by the Minister of Commerce and Industry Ahmad
Al-Haroun, on behalf of Sheikh Jaber.
