SciVal Experts Enhances Elsevier Performance, Planning and Funding Tools With a Customizable Networking and Knowledge Management Solution

AMSTERDAM, December 15, 2010 - Elsevier, a world-leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical
information products and services, today announced the integration of
Collexis Expert Profiling, a product of the recently acquired leading
developer of semantic technology Collexis, into the SciVal suite as SciVal
Experts (www.info.scival.com/experts). The offering enables
institutions to find experts while fostering collaboration within the
organization.

SciVal Experts provides institutions with a customizable faculty
information system based on content from SciVerse(R) Scopus(R), the largest
abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature. By generating
Fingerprints of individual researcher's expertise and exposing connections
among authors, SciVal Experts enables researchers, research administrators
and senior leadership to identify experts within and across institutions for
all disciplines. SciVal Experts visualizes network connections within an
organization to help facilitate further collaboration and provides links to
download publication data for deeper analysis.

"The addition of SciVal Experts to our suite of performance, planning and
funding solutions accelerates our ability to help researchers and
decision-makers establish, execute, and evaluate research strategies as well
as improve their return on investment," said Niels Weertman, Vice President
SciVal, Elsevier. "By combining Elsevier's content with Collexis' semantic
technology, Elsevier will provide institutions and researchers with new ways
to collaborate, showcase accomplishments and improve grant-related workflow
efficiencies."

Institutions can customize SciVal Experts beyond the application's
standard functionality to help meet their specific needs. Elsevier can
connect the organization's systems to SciVal Experts via web services,
integrating internal data sources such as CVs, awarded grants and course
information. SciVal Experts can serve as the backbone of an institution's
academic information system, enabling the customer to consolidate multiple
solutions into a single flexible framework.

The product development of SciVal Experts will be driven by a high level
of customer involvement, which was a key principle in the development of
Collexis Expert Profiling.
